Disabled persons have the right to be treated equally to all other people, except where different treatment can have a positive impact on their lives.

Disabled people are often discriminated against in the workplace, forcing them to beg on the street for money. Kofi, a physically disabled man completed a training program for people with disabilities. However there was no transition program put in place for him to find a job afterwards. Most of the commercial activity in the city involves portable goods and since Ghana streets do not have universal designs like curb cuts, sidewalks or ramps, Kofi could only apply to static jobs. Employers did not want to hire him because they thought that he would not be able to contribute as much as an able bodied person and they would be expected to pay him the same compensation as others. As a result, begging for money is the most profitable activity that Kofi can do.
